چکیده

The aim of this paper is to combine standard planning, replanning and multi-agent planning into a rigorous unifying framework, extending an existing logic-based approach to resource-based planning. In this Action Resource Framework (ARF), actions and resources are the primitive concepts. Actions consume and produce resources. Plans are structured objects composed of actions and resource schemes and an explicit dependency function specifying their interrelationships. Plans can be changed by applying plan operators to them. We consider both planning and replanning as plan transformation processes and we introduce some operators for plan transformation. We prove some sets of plan operators to be complete. The explicit representation of the plans and their inputs and outputs (resources) turns out to be particular useful in modeling multi-agent (re)planning as processes of exchanging services and resources among agents. Finally, we show that existing (re)planning methods and heuristics fit into this framework.

A Resource Based Framework for Planning and Replanning

We discuss a rigorous unifying framework for both planning and replanning, extending an existing logic-based approach to resource-based planning. The primitive concepts in this Action Resource Framework (ARF) are actions and resources. Actions consume and produce resources. Plans are structures composed of actions, resource facts and an explicit dependency function specifying their interrelatio...

A Theory of Intra-Agent Replanning

When autonomous agents execute in the real world, the world state as well as the objectives may change from the agent’s original conception of those things. In such cases, the agent’s planning process must modify the existing plan to make it amenable to the new conditions, and to resume execution. The need for inter-agent replanning, in terms of commitments to other agents, is understood in the...

Heuristic Search-Based Replanning

Many real-world planning problems require one to solve a series of similar planning tasks. In this case, replanning can be much faster than planning from scratch. In this paper, we introduce a novel replanning method for symbolic planning with heuristic search-based planners, currently the most popular planners. Our SHERPA replanner is not only the first heuristic search-based replanner but, di...

A Replanning Algorithm for Decision Theoretic Hierarchical Planning: Principles and Empirical Evaluation

In this paper, we present a replanning algorithm for a decision-theoretic hierarchical planner, and illustrate the experimental methodology we designed to investigate its performance. The methodology relies on an agentbased framework, in which plan failures emerge from the interplay of the agent and the environment. Given this framework, the replanning algorithm is compared with planning from s...

Probabilistic Planning vs Replanning

A theoretical comparison of probabilistic planning and replanning techniques, in the context of the planning competition. Our main contribution is a baseline test for probabilistic interestingness, along with some examples of its application. We also attempt an analysis of the latest probabilistic competition problems, and suggest some improvements that could be made for future instances of the...
